Bird oracle fragment

introductio

Short description

Fragment of a tablet with a heavily abraded surface, making parts of the text difficult to read. It contains bird oracles. The sentence in line 2´, where someone “steps on the road,” may refer to the augurs as they approach the observation location.

The publication of this fragment in KBo 63 (2015) features line numbering that diverges from the previous edition by Sakuma.

Texts

Manuscript AKBo 63.6929/rBk. K

Literature from the Konkordanz

  • Y. Sakuma, Diss., 2009: II 528f.

History of publication

Handcopy: F. Fuscagni (KBo 63, Fuscagni F. 2015a).

Edition: Sakuma Y. 2009b, II, 528-529.

Palaeography and handwriting

Dated to NS (jh.) on the HPM Konkordanz. However, the fragment is very small for a meaningful palaeographic analysis. Note that the sign ḪAR (line 5´) appears to be MS rather than NS, and that there are no distinctive late signs.
